adventures of Manni the wonderdog

We are not medium!!

This will be a short post for once.

We went to the clinic to get x-rays on Friday.Β  We are now 16 months post amp and back then we were told that the median survival with amp and chemo would be 15-18 months. So, being me, I went in prepared for the worst.

I come prepared!

I expected mets, so I thought I’d inform myself of all recent advances and brought a lot of print-outs to be able to discuss this with the vet.

I am blogging today, though, to give hope to people who are just facing the diagnosis, or the surgery, or the aftermath. It came as a total surprise to me, but:

There is hope, people. I would never say that we are cured. And if Manni lived another ten years it would still not be enough. But we have made it this far!!

This is our celebratory picture:

Ice cream celebration!

For everyone starting this journey, I made a little video of the first 12 or so months of Manni’s journey, really mainly to show how his motion got better, how much practice and balance it took to finally get to his 3/4 waltz tact. It’s a little long but it shows the difference from the first weeks to a year later pretty well.

As you can imagine, we’re pretty happy right now and are enjoying life.

Love and hugs from over here,

tina & Waltzing Mathilda

Where is Waldo? (Manni, I mean Manni)

Lend me your ear, would ya?

Life has been busy and so have we. Creating memories that last a few lifetimes is starting to get stressful – if you ask the dog, that is.

As you can see we officially started Beach Season, albeit it being just a liiiittle too chilly for human-no-fur-me. Manni thought it was just right.

But the right kind of provisions make for a nice afternoon and the satisfied yawning at the end of the day is worth a couple of very cold hands and ears πŸ™‚

where’s my pig ear??

So the next day was preeeeeetty exciting, too. Because we went to Grandma’s house! and amidst all the big a-do there…. I lost Waldo.

I mean Manni. Really. I did mean to say Manni. But you know where I’m coming from when you see where I found WaManni. If you can find him too, that is… apparently he was reaaally tired (still) and found himself a place to sleep. He could have told me, at least. But nooooooo…

I don’t know no Waldo.

After that much excitement we took a little pit-stop at our favorite Manni-Court-Appointed rehab/physio place. Massages: booooooo, says Manni. Exercises: Yaaayy!!

I ain’t missin’ nuttin’!

And then, and then, we took excitement to new heights and got a Manni-Mobile to better be able to transport the Royal Carriage.Β  And to go places far and wide. World, watch out. We’re officially on the road now!! (well, you know, on weekends, if work permits and it’s not too cold …)

Road trippin’, baby.

First time ever on the road to memories.

(you recognize a tripawd-home immediately by the number of rugs… πŸ™‚ )

So you can see: busy, busy, busy is what we are and plan on staying. Making the most of the available time.

i’ll leave you today with a tired pup on a meadow (just because it’s cute πŸ™‚ ) and a slow-motion study of The Tripawd Walk.

Much love from over here

Pimp My Ride – Spring edition

Did I just see this correctly?? Did he? He did, didn’t he? Take over my blog? That little… . Figures.

So spring has finally sprung here, finally. After horrendous rainfalls the sun came as a nice surprise. So out and about is where we go and of course we do it in style – so people know what’s coming for them πŸ™‚

But first things first. The sun finally came out of hiding, temperatures slowly coming back up to decent, so here’s me thinking ‘hey, I finally get to take pictures of that insubordinate-yet-gorgeous pup again – so much nicer in the sunlight!’Β  This is what I got…

‘Lay in the SUN?? Me?? No way! It’s warm there! What are you thinking??’

So afterwards I get THE LOOK. Have I told you about THE LOOK yet??

It is a very much practiced tool the bugger has perfected over the years to get me to do EVERYTHING. From giving out treats to going for a walk to the (very occasional) cuddle. This is it:

So going for a walk it is. I heard ya. (*sigh*) Manni’s favorite places usually include a forest (game and shade) and lakes (for cooling paws and drinking)

And sometimes, just sometimes, we meet a potential new doggy friend (preferably female and HOT!) and then my ten-year-old turns into a two-year-old again, which lifts my spirits a lot:

However, no matter what you may be thinking I am not a total push-over. I AM NOT!

I demand payment for being at his beck- and-call, yes I do! In the form of doggy kisses

Although I am lucky if I get a single one. Usually it looks more like this:

‘Booooring!! Kissing is for giiirls!!’

So after the adventures of the first of the spring days I decided to take him to the barn with me. Manni grew up around horses and generally loves being outside. I don’t take him with me much anymore because it just gets really exhausting for him really quickly. Whenever I do take him now, though, he is really excited to be back in his old stomping grounds and he has to mark his territory in even the farthest corner. When I went to look for him again I couldn’t find him at first. So I looked around the barn and into each and every stall and came to find a very, very tired little fellow:

Hay and straw make for perfect bedding

To those of you whose dogs are also not into cuddling all that much: you know what I’m talking about when I say that a tired pup makes a fantastic victim for the human need for snuggling… πŸ™‚

Rare moments cherished

So I half-carried him to the car to go home and sleep off the latest of our adventures properly. That means, of course, his own bed, mattress and all…

Shhhhhh, I better be quiet now. Don’t want to wake the baby. πŸ™‚

More later…

Days befitting my rank.

Hey folks, come closer! I’ll tell you what I did last weekend.

Don’t tell mom I took over this blog, but I thought I’d give you my view on things for once. But shhhh, don’t tell..

So I know she told you about my Royal Carriage which we got because it’s just befitting my rank, really. But did you know, did you know that this thing actually converts to a carriage that’s pulled?? I didn’t!! So when I heard about that I kind of expected horses. Two white stallions, to be exact. Again, as befitting my rank, really. I mean, what else, huh?

So imagine my surprise when the folks got their old -I am not kidding- BIKES! out of the garage. I mean, the things that I used to run next to (and chased, if some stranger rode them, ahem..)! And you know what they did?? Do you?? They attached my Royal Carriage to one of them! Huh.

I was a little skeptical at first, after all, I am the one that’s supposed to be in front, checking everything out and see if it’s safe!! But as it turns out it was actually quite fun to ride in style.Β  And the folks let me check out the important places in between, so that they would know it was safe to go that way.

This is what the trip looked like:

Kinda cool, if you ask me. Finally, finally, the folks understood that it’s reaaaally befitting to be able to sniff all those good scents without having to get off of my palanquin! I was ready for someone to hand me the grapes but mom said they are poison for dogs. booooo!! She needs to work on her attitude, if you ask me!!

But at least I got her to do all the work:

So I was a liiiittle tired when we got back home. I mean, hey! That was a LOT of work for one day. And what do you think happened then?? Nooooo they didn’t let me have my beauty sleep, noooooooo. Instead, they dragged me to a restaurant.

Now, as you know, the best place in a restaurant is under the table for obvious reasons (like falling food) and, well-behaved as the folks mostly are, they let me have that place.

I don’t beg!! I am well behaved after all! (It’s just, It’s, just, really, YUMMY!!)

Boy, did I sleep soundly when we finally got home!!

And then came Sunday.

I thought I could sleep in but you know, if you live with people you have to keep them entertained. If only because the fridge is too high for me to reach.

So I humored my mom and went to the dog sport place with her. We hadn’t been in a few weeks because apparently people don’t handle the winter weather all that well. Duh, get a fur, idiots. But what can you do.

So I was still a little tired at first. (Yeah, we all know who’s to blame for that…) But after a while I remembered that I actually like that stuff. And I kind of like my mom’s expression if I make an effort, so it’s all good. Here’s my Olympic Medal Moment:

I know! I’m cute, right??

ssshhhhh, that guy? he’s oooold! I really don’t know what he’s doing in my Olympics group! He’s kinda nice, though.

oh, oops, gotta get off this keyboard, mom’s coming! See ya later folks, and remember, no telling!!!

Gotta run!

Manni in Motion

I was thinking about calling this post “Poetry in Motion” but then I thought that’s maybe a liiiittle over the top πŸ™‚Β  Maybe it should be ‘Pawetry in Motion’ πŸ™‚

Still, I love the way our tripawds are able to move and here’s a little ‘motion study’ from our (very) early morning walks. At least we get the early twilight by now.

Another bodypart that just can’t be overlook for its prominent features (even if you try, you just can’t look past it…) when studying tripawds in motion is, of course,

(I have this theory now where I am convinced that Manni uses his tongue for balance. If it were a few inches longer he would use it as a leg πŸ™‚ )

And I don’t know about you all but while obviously all of our dogs are a bundle of joy and cute as can be the things that get me most are noses and, of course,

paws! Glorious paws! There’s just nothing cuter, especially fast asleep and dreaming:

Still plenty of paws left for vivid dreams of course.

I’ll leave you with my favorite picture of all times, from back when there where more paws. (This was actually taken during a fotoshoot with my horse, the dog was just more fotogenic πŸ™‚ )

UP! we go

Have a great week, give good cuddles and enjoy

tina & Manni
