adventures of Manni the wonderdog

Manni in Motion

I was thinking about calling this post “Poetry in Motion” but then I thought that’s maybe a liiiittle over the top πŸ™‚Β  Maybe it should be ‘Pawetry in Motion’ πŸ™‚

Still, I love the way our tripawds are able to move and here’s a little ‘motion study’ from our (very) early morning walks. At least we get the early twilight by now.

Another bodypart that just can’t be overlook for its prominent features (even if you try, you just can’t look past it…) when studying tripawds in motion is, of course,

THE TONGUEΒ  πŸ™‚

(I have this theory now where I am convinced that Manni uses his tongue for balance. If it were a few inches longer he would use it as a leg πŸ™‚ )

And I don’t know about you all but while obviously all of our dogs are a bundle of joy and cute as can be the things that get me most are noses and, of course,

paws! Glorious paws! There’s just nothing cuter, especially fast asleep and dreaming:

Still plenty of paws left for vivid dreams of course.

I’ll leave you with my favorite picture of all times, from back when there where more paws. (This was actually taken during a fotoshoot with my horse, the dog was just more fotogenic πŸ™‚ )

UP! we go

Have a great week, give good cuddles and enjoy

tina & Manni

A howlin’ hound.

I love my dog. I really do. More than anything. And I think what makes him all the more special are his (not-so-little) character quirks.

But sometimes, just sometimes I wonder if he’s a little crazy (which probably helps him cope with me…). (It’s actually HIS food I’m preparing here:)

I am very thankful for being able to take Manni to work with me and when we have a little time we get to go outside and play with his prey-dummy so he gets to stay busy, too.

I decided to just keep blogging our little day-to-day adventures in the hope that others find a little joy in this as well and see how well tripawds can do. I found it is also very therapeutic for me to leave something of a legacy of Manni.

Have a good week folks!

A little practice makes a lot of perfect balance

Now, since I wrote my last post on a not-quite-so-happy note I thought I would just share my experiences in terms of post-op rehab with you. I’ll try and show a few short videos, if you would like to bear with me.

I found a -in my eyes- very capable physical therapist for dogs right after I got Manni back from the clinic. And while we started out with massages we went to little exercises to up his balance, coordination and muscle power. We then progressed to a group for handicapped and older dogs, with parcours and trails, specifically designed for this. And let me tell you: it worked miracles for miracle-dog. You could almost watch the muscles being built up and his balance getting better everyday. I’ll show you two videos from the class, but keep in mind: all those little obstacle-thingys are self-made by the therapist and her husband so any of you that are higher up in the DIY-league: go ahead! πŸ™‚

And no, that was not one of our more motivated days and also one of our last rounds… πŸ™‚

What I got to take from these exercises is, most importantly QUALITY TIME WITH MY DOG!

Additionally I got all these ideas I got to take with me for when we go on our walks. And different, uneven grounds and surfaces make for good practise, too, as do these little exercises:

I also make sure I vary my rounds with Manni, not just for more excitement and different scents but also for the different grounds and trails.

And at the end of the day, this is my view from the couch:
